Amateur Radio Packet Door
Help
CTRL-A Exit ARPD Please be sure to disconnect FIRST!
CTRL-C Return to CMD: Use this from Converse Mode.
CTRL-C (3 times) Return to CMD: With in 2 seconds. (Transparent Mode)
CTRL-I Online Help This is it.
CTRL-R Redisplay Line Use this if traffic interrupts cmd.
CTRL-Z End of Msg Same as /EX when leaving message.
From CMD: prompt
C(onnect) callsign Attempt connection with callsign
D(isconnect) Disconnect or abort connect attempt
Advice:
Don't PANIC! If you are new or inexperienced with packet radio you should
remember that PACKET IS SLOW! Many times nothing seems to be happening. Just
wait. If you attempt a connect and it doesn't work, the TNC will eventually
tell you. If you want OUT(!) hit CTRL-C and return to the CMD: prompt first
then hit CTRL-A. If you are connected to a station use D to disconnect and
wait for the ***Disconnected message.
Online commands:
MH Use this command to see what the TNC has been hearing on frequency
for the last few minutes. The top of the list is the LAST station
heard.
SYSOP Use this command to allow online access to the TNC mailbox. Once in
the mailbox you will be given options. Use the H(elp) key for a full
explanation of the options. You may L(ist), R(ead), S(end) or K(ill)
messages in the mailbox. Please Kill only your own messages.
*** NOTE: You can only exit the mailbox with CTRL-C. DO NOT EXIT
THE DOOR WHILE IN MAILBOX MODE!
DISP Will display current TNC parameters. It is a LONG list and will
scroll off the screen quickly. You may review it with the scroll-
back buffer in your comm program if you like. You may also use a
qualifier after the command. Example: Disp A
** A Async port parameters
** C Special characters
** I Identification parameters
** L Link parameters
** M Monitor parameters
** T Timing parameters
** H 14 Health registers
What to expect:
Depending on the time of day, you may see nothing for several minutes.
If it is a busy time and there is a lot of traffic on frequency, you will
see a lot of callsigns and perhaps some strings of text as other stations
exchange packets. It may at first seem hard to follow but you will catch
on quickly.
WE0T>WA0WPJ:
Thanks for the information Craig.
The above means WE0T is sending to WA0WPJ the string that follows the
identification line. Just watch for a while and you will soon have a
feel for what is taking place.
If you see an identification line followed by 'garbage' and bells ring
and your screen goes totally crazy, don't panic. It is simply someone
sending a non-text file to another station.
Address Questions to SYSOP in the regular message base on the BBS. Please
do NOT leave SYSOP messages in the TNC mailbox. You may feel free to use
the TNC mailbox from your station to contact the sysop, however.
